At Holy Trinity Lutheran Church we believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God that teaches the Good News of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the sins of the world.
We believe in the Holy Trinity, that God is one God, who has existed from all eternity as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit who are co-equally God. The Bible states that there is only one God. We also learn from the Bible that the one true God consists of three persons. Genesis 1:26 says “let us make man in our image”. At Jesus’ baptism, we see God the Son as an in-the-flesh human being. God the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, and God the Father’s voice coming down from heaven. We believe in the Holy Trinity because this is what God has revealed to us about Himself.
We believe that Jesus, the second person of the Holy Trinity, came from heaven in the form of a man, lived a sinless life on our behalf, and died on the cross to pay for the sins of the whole world. While other religions teach that something must be done to earn God’s favor and salvation, we believe that Jesus has already secured our salvation and that God reaches out to people in Christ rather than people reaching out to God. We are saved not by what we do or have done, but by God’s grace, which is the unearned and undeserved gift or forgiveness and eternal life received by faith and given to all who believe.
The Bible teaches that God reaches into our lives through His Word (the Bible) and through two special means known as sacraments: Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. Christian Baptism applies water “in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit” as described by Jesus. We believe that in Baptism, God washes away the person’s sins and welcomes the person as a member of His Kingdom. We believe that in Holy Communion Jesus gives us His very body and blood in, with and under the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins, and that the bread and wine are not merely symbols that represent His body and blood.
